(1855-1925) Лафоллетт, Роберт МарионПолитический и государственный деятель. Член Палаты представителей [ House of Representatives] в 1885-91. Выдвинул т.н. Висконсинский план ["Wisconsin Idea"] политических реформ, предложив ввести прямые первичные выборы [direct primaries] и гражданскую службу [ civil service] на уровне штата. При поддержке прогрессивных республиканцев был избран губернатором штата Висконсин (1901-06). Сенатор в 1906-25, основал Прогрессивную партию 1924 [ Progressive Party 2., La Follette Movement], выдвинувшую его кандидатом на пост президента. Выступал в поддержку антитрестовского законодательства [ antitrust laws], политических и социальных реформ. Во внешней политике - изоляционист [ Isolationism], противник участия США в первой мировой войне и вступления в Лигу Наций. Его сыновья - Роберт Марион, мл. [ La Follette, Robert Marion, Jr.] и Филип Фокс [La Follette, Philip F.] (1897-1965) также занимались политической деятельностью.
